This hat is a joy to behold, finely crafted, soft, not like straw. I get tons of compliments whenever I wear it. There is a reinforced section in the pinch of the crown to prevent tearing or cracking from normal use. The sweat band is soft cotton. For a medium it was a little large, but snugged up nicely with a little thin foam around the inside of the sweat band. I am very glad I bought this hat.
